Cellist Erich Schoen-René was born in California and began his musical study at the age of four. He is the recipient of a double undergraduate degree in Music Performance and German from Bard College, a master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, and considers himself very lucky to have studied with cellists Maxine Neuman, Luis Garcia-Renart, and David Geber. In his 25 years in New York City, Erich has played at virtually every major hall in the city, from Carnegie Hall to Lincoln Center to a performance at the Natural History Museum for Earth Day in 2018. Tours with various ensembles have taken him to Germany, Switzerland, Hungary, Croatia, Mexico, and most of the Eastern United States. His playing can be heard on numerous recordings, spanning genres from classical to pop to experimental, and he was featured on the 2018 Grammy Award-winning children’s album All The Sounds. He was the Principal cellist of the Chelsea Symphony in New York for 10 years, and the assistant Principal for the Distinguished Concerts Orchestra. He can be seen and heard in several episodes of the Amazon series Mozart in The Jungle, where he was also the cello coach for Saffron Burrows.
